Pre-notification

Some payment schemes require the merchant to send a payment pre-notification to the customer before the payment is collected. A pre-notification informs the customer when they can expect a payment (single or recurring) to be debited from their account.

The payment notification is mandatory in the BACS and SEPA scheme. Nevertheless, only in the BACS scheme a separate pre-notification is required.

To avoid mixing these terms up:

→ The payment notification informs the debtor that a payment has been booked.

→ The pre-notification informs the debtor that a payment will be be booked and also when it will be booked.
